# Economy Car Rental in Rawai, Phuket

Rawai is the flat part of Phuket's hilly south, with wide main roads and a regular grid of residential streets, so a small automatic is all most people need here. The car earns its keep on short trips: about 10 minutes to Nai Harn and Ya Nui for a swim, because Rawai has no swimming beach of its own. Chalong is about 15 minutes north. The airport is about 45 minutes up the east road, and we deliver to your house or hotel in Rawai at any hour.

**A week from 5 145 ฿ total** — economy car 735 ฿/day · crossover from 9 555 ฿ · refundable deposit from 5 000 ฿ · live search, 7 days from 2 November, pick-up in Patong.

## A small car is enough for Rawai

The southern tip of Phuket is mostly hills, and Rawai is the flat part of it. Main roads are wide, the residential streets behind them form a regular grid, and nothing here resembles the winding road above Kata, so a compact automatic covers daily life without effort.

It is also a forgiving place for a driver new to the left: quiet roads, simple junctions and room to make a slow decision. The exception is a house up one of the hill lanes; then a bigger car is worth a word in the chat. For a house in the bay next door, small car hire in Nai Harn covers the tight coves there.

## Speed bumps and village lanes

The lanes behind the waterfront are dotted with speed bumps, and many are unpainted; in low sun they disappear. Hit one fast in a low car and the scrape on the underside shows up at the hand-back, so lift off early and cross at an angle where the lane allows.

The lanes are narrow and shared with children, dogs and slow scooters, and pickups reverse out of gates without much warning. Drive them at the pace of a residential street, because that is what they are.

## On an island day, leave the car at the pier

Boats to the nearby islands leave from Rawai, and the pier car park is busy early and quiet by ten. Use the marked parking rather than the access road, where tour vehicles need room to turn; leaving a car there all day is standard.

Take valuables with you and leave the seats visibly empty. When you come back, open both sides and run the air conditioning with the windows down for a minute before anyone gets in.

## Seafront parking: easy, except on weekend evenings

A long run of parking lines the seafront near the restaurants, and outside busy evenings there is space. On weekend evenings the seafood restaurants fill with people from across the island; park a street back and walk two minutes instead of circling.

On the residential streets, keep clear of driveways and gates. Choose shade over a short walk every time.

## The airport run goes up the east side

From the airport to Rawai is about 45 minutes in calm traffic: south on Thepkrasattri, then down the east road to the southern tip. It avoids the west coast entirely, which makes it calmer than the distance suggests, but nearly every car heading south shares the road out of the airport, so allow for the morning build-up.

Chalong, about 15 minutes north, puts you on the corridor to Phuket Town and its big supermarkets, a straightforward run on flat road.

## What an economy car costs in Rawai

The table near the top of this page is our current price list by class and rental length. The Economy row gives the lowest daily rate in the class; the models are listed in the fleet table further down.

Delivery to your address is priced separately and confirmed in the chat, and the refundable deposit is held at the handover. Staying longer? Monthly car rental in Rawai uses the 30+ days column of the same table.

## Which small models suit Rawai?

The flat grid of streets in Rawai suits the smallest automatics: the Suzuki Swift is a five-seat hatchback with a 1.2-litre engine, and the Nissan Almera a five-seat sedan with a closed boot for the market runs.

## FAQ

### What is the easiest route from Phuket Airport to Rawai at night?

South on Thepkrasattri, then down the east road. It avoids the west coast hills and takes about 45 minutes in calm traffic.

### Can you deliver the car to a villa in Rawai?

Yes. Rawai is on our delivery list, and with flat roads and easy parking a villa handover there is usually simple. Send the location pin, so the driver does not have to look for an unmarked gate after dark.

### Is Rawai a good base for the southern beaches by car?

Yes. Nai Harn, Ya Nui and Promthep Cape are short drives, and you come home to flat streets with space to park instead of a bay you have to climb out of.

### When is a small car not enough in Rawai?

When the house is up one of the hill lanes with a steep drive, or when five people travel with luggage. Otherwise the flat streets ask for nothing bigger.
