# SUV Rental in Nai Harn, Phuket

An SUV is worth it in Nai Harn if you stay on the hills around the bay or drive out most days: both roads out of the bay climb, and the northern one to Kata winds for about 15 minutes. Nai Harn is also the furthest beach from the airport, about 55 minutes in calm traffic, so a bigger boot earns its keep on arrival day. For a flat address by the lagoon and short trips, a small car is cheaper and easier to park.

## Who needs an SUV in Nai Harn

People who sleep on the slopes and people who leave the bay every day. Nai Harn sits in a bowl: flat around the lagoon, hills on three sides, so a house on the hillside means a climb at the end of every trip.

On those climbs a crossover gives you a higher seat, a clearer view over the bonnet and room under the bumper where a concrete drive meets the road. If your address is flat and most days end at the beach, the bigger car only costs you more and parks worse; small car hire in Nai Harn is the better buy then.

## Both roads out of the bay climb

North, the winding road over the headland takes you past Kata Noi to Kata in about 15 minutes. East, the road to Rawai and the airport corridor climbs too, but more gently.

On the way down, put the gearbox in a low gear and let the engine hold the car; a heavier body heats its brakes faster than a hatchback. Phone reception is good in the bay and patchy on the hill roads, so look at the route before you set off and keep two or three landmarks in mind.

## The longest airport run on the island

From the airport to Nai Harn is about 55 minutes in calm traffic: south on Thepkrasattri for almost the whole length of the island, then through the hills of the south to the bay. Rush hour and heavy rain stretch it.

That distance is the second argument for a bigger boot. A family with suitcases does the trip twice, and for a morning flight it pays to leave well ahead of the time the map suggests.

## Promthep at sunset, Black Rock on foot

Promthep Cape is about 10 minutes from the bay, and its car park fills well before the sun goes down; latecomers park along the approach road and on the bends. Arrive early, and on the way back either leave with the first wave or wait twenty minutes for an empty road.

Black Rock Viewpoint, on the headland to the north-west, is a different outing: a dirt track, then 15–20 minutes on foot. The crossovers we rent are road cars, not off-roaders, so leave the car where the tarmac ends.

## Parking around the bay is easy outside peak weeks

There is free space along the road behind the beach and around the lagoon, partly shaded by trees. In high season and at weekends the spaces near the sand go by late morning, and the lagoon side, two minutes' walk away, is the fallback.

Do not stop on the verge of the climbing roads out of the bay: they are narrow, and a parked SUV there pushes oncoming traffic over the centre line on a blind bend. Overnight, use the parking at your villa or hotel.

## What an SUV costs in Nai Harn

The table near the top of this page shows our current price list by class and rental length. The compact SUVs for Nai Harn are in the Crossover row; the figure is the lowest daily rate in the class, and the models are listed in the fleet table further down.

Compare it with the Economy row in the column for your rental length: that difference is what the easier climb home costs per day. Delivery to the bay is priced separately and confirmed in the chat, and the refundable deposit is held at the handover.

## Which SUV models suit the hills around the bay?

Both roads out of the bay climb, so an SUV with an automatic gearbox makes the daily drive easier: the Mazda CX-3 has a 2.0-litre petrol engine and the Toyota C-HR a self-charging hybrid, each with five seats.

## FAQ

### How much more does an SUV cost than a small car in Nai Harn?

Compare the Crossover and Economy rows of the table at the top of this page, in the column for your rental length. Delivery is added on top in both cases and confirmed in the chat.

### Can the car be delivered to Nai Harn and returned at the airport?

Yes. Choose Nai Harn as the delivery point and the airport as the return point in the booking form; the return hour goes into the agreement. Allow about 55 minutes for the drive in calm traffic.

### Is the winding road from Nai Harn to Kata hard in a bigger car?

No, but it is narrow and twisting over the headland. Keep a low gear on the descents and overtake scooters only where you can see the road ahead.

### Can I take an SUV down to Ya Nui?

You can, but the access road is steep and narrow with little room to turn at the bottom. A small car handles it better; in an SUV be ready to reverse out.
