How many big suitcases, and how many people in the car at once. Backpacks are a separate count, they end up on the floor or on someone's knees. Nobody has ever chosen a car well from the boot volume in a brochure. Two people, two big cases, two backpacks — any economy car. Cases in the boot, backpacks on the back seat, done. Three people and three cases is about the limit for a small car, and one case usually rides next to whoever sits in the back. Four people with four large cases do not go into an ordinary sedan. That is when we move you up a class. ## Hatchback or sedan for two Either is fine. Hard-shell cases are what tips it. The sedan boot is closed and a bit longer, so two big hard cases lie flat, and in a hatchback one of them tends to end up standing on its edge. Bringing two of those? Say so in the chat and we will send a sedan, a Yaris Ativ or a Nissan Almera. ## A family of four with four suitcases Here we normally suggest a seven-seater, a Toyota Veloz or a Honda BR-V, and fold the third row flat before it leaves. The whole floor behind the second row turns into boot, and four big cases go in without a fight. Or a large SUV. The Toyota Fortuner, when it is free for your dates, takes four people and four large suitcases. Medium-sized cases change things a little — ask us whether a large crossover like the Honda CR-V will do, it often does. Child seats eat into this. Each seat takes a whole place on the back row, so with two seats fitted there is less room left on the rear seat for that one extra bag. ## Five or more with luggage A seven-seater is people or luggage. Pick one. Third row up, and what is left behind it is roughly a shelf — backpacks yes, five suitcases no, however clever the packing. Five people works: two rows of seats, third row down, cases at the back. Six or seven with luggage on arrival day is two cars, or one car plus a taxi carrying the bags to the hotel. ## Loading at the airport At Phuket Airport you load at the car park, not at the terminal door. Push the trolley out, there is space around the car and nobody rushing you. Keep the pile below the top of the back seat so the mirror still shows something. A hard case lying loose on the rear seat will slide forward under hard braking, put it in the boot or on the floor. Still too much? Soft bags go on the floor in front of the back seat. And if it really does not close, message us and ask for the next class up. Cheaper than two runs across the island. ## Bags for a trip with a night away For two or three days on the mainland people pack less than for the holiday itself. Usually the bags fit in the boot of a sedan or a crossover and the rear window stays clear. Going on to Ao Nang and Railay, where the car stays on the mainland and the bags ride in a boat? One soft bag each is easier to carry than a big case. ## What to put in the first message Describe the group and let us pick the car. Adults, children, big cases, hand luggage, child seats. A surfboard, a pushchair or a golf bag changes the choice more than one more suitcase, so write those down as well.
