# Kata Noi Beach by Car: Road, Parking and Best Time

Page URL: https://kolesio.com/en/routes/kata-noi-beach-by-car/

Kata Noi is the smaller bay just south of Kata, reached by the same road over a short headland, and from Kata the whole southern stretch to Nai Harn takes 15 min. Parking is the hard part: one narrow road lined with hotel guests' cars, so it only works if you arrive early in the morning or after four.

## In short

- 2 bays — Kata and Kata Noi, joined by one road over a short headland
- 15 min — from Kata to Nai Harn on the winding road past the viewpoint above Kata Noi
- About 50 min — from Kata to Phuket Airport, one of the longest runs on the island
- Early or after four — the two windows when there is still room to park by the beach

## Short answer

Yes, Kata Noi is an easy beach to reach by car and a hard one to park at. There is no separate road to it: you drive into Kata, keep going south on the road that serves the main beach, climb over a short headland and drop down into the second bay. Kata Noi is cut off from Kata by that hill, so the road goes up and down on a gradient even though the distance is small.

### What the last stretch is like

At Kata Noi the road narrows. There is a wall on one side and the drop to the sea on the other, and coaches use the same lane you do. That is why nobody stands along the carriageway here: one stopped car blocks the only lane for everyone behind it. Parking is organised at the entrances to the beach, and that is where you aim for.

The approach sets the plan. You do not cruise in at noon and hope. You arrive while the bay is still waking up, or late in the afternoon when the morning crowd has gone home.

## What that means for the car

Size matters less than width and power. The road past Kata Noi is narrow, so a compact car is easier to place when a coach comes the other way, and easier to squeeze into a gap at the beach entrance.

Power matters if you are staying on the slope. Above Kata Noi a few driveways are so steep that a small engine with four people and luggage labours on them in the afternoon heat. For a villa up there, a crossover handles the ramp with the air conditioning on and nobody holding their breath.

Rain changes the road more than the car. After a downpour water runs off the hill and across the tarmac, and on a bend that stream behaves like ice for a second. Drop your speed on the headland climb when it is wet, and read our notes on the rainy season before a trip in the wet months.

If you are staying in Kata or Kata Noi, we can bring the car to your hotel or villa, including houses on the slope: automatic, first-class commercial insurance, refundable deposit, the total for your dates fixed in chat. Send the dates on WhatsApp or through the booking form.

## Where to park at Kata Noi

The bay is small and there is one road, lined with hotel guests' cars. Kata Noi fills earlier than the main Kata beach, and in high season the free spaces go from early morning.

When it is full, do not improvise on the verge. Turn round, go back over the headland and park in Kata, where the choice is wider, or leave the car further up the slope and walk down. Both beat blocking the only lane.

- Arrive early in the morning or after four — that is when the beach entrances still have room
- Park only at the organised spaces by the entrances — the carriageway is the coaches' lane
- If it is full, go back over the headland to Kata — the verge on this road has no safe spot
- Leave the car facing out if you can — turning on a narrow road with traffic behind is slow
- Take valuables to the beach — a car on a quiet side of the bay stands alone for hours

## When to go

Early morning is the calmest time around Kata. By nine the excursion vehicles are on the road, and after lunch they are joined by everyone heading south to the viewpoints. For Kata Noi that means the morning gives you both a space and a quiet road.

Late afternoon is the second window. After four the day visitors start leaving and spaces open up again, and you can stay for the evening light. Leave before dark if you are heading back over the hills: the southern road has no lighting on the hill sections.

Season matters as much as the hour. From May to October the west coast runs surf with rip currents, and a red flag means swimming is prohibited, not discouraged. On those days the drive is still easy; the swim is what you skip.

## Kata Noi on a southern loop

Kata Noi sits at the start of the most demanding piece of driving in the south. The road to Nai Harn leaves on a gradient, climbs, drops and climbs again, with sharp bends near the top and good asphalt that in places barely fits two cars passing.

Halfway along is the viewpoint above three beaches, where Kata, Karon and Kata Noi appear at once. Its shared car park is full during the day and packed at sunset, when cars start stopping on the road itself. Come in the morning, or pass it by.

If you want the whole route, Kata to Nai Harn by car has it bend by bend. Arriving from the west coast, Patong to Kata by car covers the pass before the bay. With a villa on the slope above the bay, SUV rental in Kata covers the steep ramps and the winding road south.

> Do not stop on the bends of the Kata Noi road or at the viewpoint when its pull-in is full. There is almost no verge, cars come up from below a bend without warning, and a car parked on the carriageway forces oncoming traffic across the centre line.

## FAQ

### Can you drive to Kata Noi Beach?

Yes. Kata Noi is reached by the same road that serves Kata, over a short headland to the south. The last stretch is narrow, with a wall on one side and the drop to the sea on the other, so drive it slowly.

### Is there parking at Kata Noi Beach?

Some, at the entrances to the beach, but it fills earlier than at Kata. The one road is lined with hotel guests' cars. If there is no space, go back over the headland and park in Kata instead.

### What is the best time to go to Kata Noi by car?

Early morning or after four. Before nine the road is calm and the spaces are free; late in the afternoon the day visitors leave. Around midday the bay is usually full.

### How long is the drive from Kata Noi to Nai Harn?

From Kata to Nai Harn it is 15 min on the winding southern road, past the viewpoint above Kata Noi. The hard parts are the gradient out of the bay, the sharp bends near the top and the viewpoint pull-in.

### Which car suits Kata Noi?

A compact automatic for the beach and the narrow road. If you are staying on the slope, choose a crossover, because some driveways above Kata Noi are too steep for a small car with four people on a hot day.
