We bring the car to your hotel or villa in Mai Khao, including early arrivals after a night flight. This is the quietest part of the island and the most spread out. Without a car, even a trip to buy groceries turns into a project.

Why you cannot really do Mai Khao without a car
Mai Khao is the longest beach on Phuket and the emptiest. That is exactly why people choose it, and exactly why the usual holiday logic breaks. There is no strip of shops behind the sand. Resorts sit far apart, separated by pine trees and empty road, and walking between two of them is a serious walk in serious heat.
Everyday life
Groceries, a pharmacy, a decent coffee, a proper dinner that is not the hotel restaurant again: all of that is a drive. A short drive, but a drive. Families staying two weeks feel this by day three.
Getting out
The other half is exploring. Everything most people come to see, from the west coast beaches to the old town, is south of you. On-demand taxis reach Mai Khao, but you will wait longer here than anywhere else on the island, and the return trip at night is the one that gets awkward.
What it means for the car
Mai Khao is flat, so this is not about ground clearance or engine size. It is about comfort over distance, because every trip you make from here is longer than the same trip would be from Kamala or Karon.
Getting to your accommodation
Many villas and smaller resorts sit at the end of unsealed side lanes off the main road. They are perfectly passable in an ordinary car, but they are narrow and turning around at the end of one is easier in something compact. If you are booked into a villa rather than a large resort, send us the location and we will tell you what turns up best.
After rain
Those same lanes hold puddles after a downpour, and a puddle on a sand lane can be deeper than it looks. Drive through slowly and centrally rather than at the edge, where the surface is softest.
Where to park
Parking is the easy part of Mai Khao. Space is the one thing there is plenty of.
At the beach
There are pull-ins along the coastal road with shade from the pines. Choose shade over proximity, because a car left in full sun for three hours here becomes genuinely unpleasant to get back into.
At the hotels
Every resort has its own car park and a barrier. Tell reception the car is yours on the first day, so the security staff stop wondering about it.
About the protected stretch
Parts of this coast are a protected turtle nesting area with marked access points. Use the marked entrances and stay off the sand with the car, which should be obvious and occasionally is not.
- Park in the pine shade rather than close to the water
- Register the car with your hotel's security on day one
- Use marked beach access points and keep off the sand
- Do not leave bags visible in a car parked on an empty stretch
- Fold the mirrors on narrow villa lanes
The airport run, both directions
The airport is the one thing Mai Khao is close to. That single fact changes both the start and the end of a trip here.
Arriving at night
A late landing followed by a short drive north is about as gentle an introduction to driving on the left as this island offers. The road is straight, the traffic is thin and you are at your hotel before your first junction becomes an event. We can have the car waiting at the terminal or at the hotel, whichever you prefer.
Departure day
You can genuinely have breakfast, swim and still make a midday flight. Fill up before you get to the terminal area rather than after, and give yourself a small buffer for the barrier at the resort exit.
Aircraft over the beach
The northern end of Mai Khao is right under the approach path. It is a sight worth stopping for, but stop in a pull-in, not on the carriageway. People do stop on the road here and it causes exactly the problems you would expect.
Where to drive from Mai Khao
The near circle
Nai Yang and Naithon are your neighbours: small, quiet beaches with proper places to eat, close enough for an evening trip. Thalang and its temples sit inland on the same short run.
A full day out
Patong, Kata, the old town and the southern viewpoints are all realistic as a day trip rather than an afternoon. Set off early, come back after the evening rush has thinned, and treat it as one destination rather than four.
Delivery and return
The handover check
Do the walk-around before the driver leaves, in daylight if you can, and photograph anything already marked. This takes five minutes and settles every later question in advance.
Giving the car back
We collect from the hotel, or you can leave it at the airport, whichever suits your departure. Say which when you book so nobody is improvising on the day. WhatsApp is the quickest way to arrange it, and Telegram works too.
Частые вопросы
Do I need a car in Mai Khao?
Realistically yes. The district is long, quiet and spread out, and there is no walkable strip of shops and restaurants behind the beach.
Will you deliver a car to a hotel in Mai Khao?
Yes, to hotels and to villas, including at night after a late flight. Send the location and the time and we will be there.
What kind of car suits Mai Khao?
Something comfortable over distance with strong air conditioning. The terrain is flat, so a compact is fine; a crossover is easier if you are on unsealed villa lanes.
How far is Mai Khao from the airport?
It is the closest resort area to the terminal, a short and straight run north. That makes both arrival and departure days unusually easy.
Can I drive right up to the beach in Mai Khao?
Up to it, yes, at the marked access points with pull-ins under the pines. Onto the sand, no, and parts of the coast are a protected nesting area.
