The short version: you need your national and international licences, the deposit is taken in cash or as a hold on a card, you must never hand over your passport, and camera fines go to the owner of the car and are then passed on to you.

One topic apart is what to do after an accident. The order is simple: do not move the car, film everything on your phone, call the rental company and the tourist police. Without a report the insurer does not pay, even when the other party is obviously at fault.
And about fuel: look at the sticker on the filler flap, it says what to put in. A mistake with gasohol or diesel is paid for out of your own pocket.
Documents: what rental is impossible without
An international permit plus your national licence plus your passport. An IDP is valid only together with the national licence — the document itself says so.
Categories
A car needs category B, a scooter category A. The car category does not cover a scooter, and that is the most common mistake tourists make.
Without an international permit the insurance does not apply after an accident, and the police issue a fine at a check. There is a detailed breakdown on the licences page.
Deposit and insurance
The deposit is a refundable sum covering the risks on the car. We discuss the terms in advance: there are options without cash, but they must be agreed before delivery, not over the bonnet.
What the insurance covers
Basic cover comes with the car. It matters to understand the limits: the insurance does not work if the driver had no licence or was not on the contract, or if alcohol was involved.

What to do if something happens
An accident: do not move the car unless it is blocking traffic, photograph the position, the damage and the plates, wait for the police and call us.
Towing
If the car is not where you left it, first look at the kerb markings, then call us. The car is registered to the rental company, and dealing with the pound is faster through us.
A breakdown
Call straight away, do not try to fix anything yourself. A replacement or a repair is our job, and it is settled faster than you would think.
