Which Toyota fits your Phuket trip
Toyota covers the widest spread in our fleet, so it is often where people start. The Yaris and the Yaris Ativ are small automatics for a couple who stay around Patong or Kata and park on narrow sois. The Vios is the same idea with a bigger boot, which helps on the airport run with two suitcases.
The C-HR sits higher. You feel it on the Kata–Karon hill and on the road up to Promthep Cape after rain. The Veloz is the minivan here: one car for the whole family on a day trip to Phang Nga Bay, instead of two taxis. Next to Honda, Toyota has more small cars and fewer long-distance ones; if you mostly drive between the villa and the beach, the Toyota line is the easier place to look.

Is a 1.2-litre Toyota Yaris enough for Patong Hill?
For two people with day bags, yes. Every Toyota Yaris in our fleet, hatchback or Ativ sedan, has a 1.2-litre petrol engine and an automatic gearbox, and the climb from Patong over to Kathu or Karon is an ordinary road for it.
Four adults, full suitcases and the air conditioning on change the picture. The car goes up in a low gear with nothing left for overtaking, so you sit behind the songthaew and wait. If that is your trip, the Toyota Vios has a 1.5-litre engine and the same simple controls. Coming down, move the selector to a low gear and let the engine hold the car.

Yaris hatchback or Yaris Ativ for two big suitcases?
Both take two large suitcases with the hand luggage on top. The difference is where the cases ride. In the hatchback they sit right behind the rear seats, visible through the glass. The Yaris Ativ is a sedan with a separate boot under a lid, so the bags stay out of sight while you swim at Kata or eat in the old town.
Engine, gearbox and five seats are the same on both, so they drive alike. Take the Ativ if the car will often wait with luggage inside. Four adults with four full-size cases is another trip altogether: one minivan, or two cars.

Is the Toyota Veloz the right car for a family with child seats?
The Toyota Veloz is a seven-seat MPV with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and front-wheel drive. The third row is what families pay for: everyone rides in one car, and children in car seats get a proper place instead of a squeeze. Ask for the seats when you book and they are fitted before the car reaches you, at airport arrivals or at the villa gate.
It is a long car, though. In the lanes behind Kata beach and on the steep driveways above Surin it needs care, so send us the villa name first and we check the access before the booking.

Which Toyota is a hybrid?
The Toyota C-HR, a five-seat crossover with a 1.8-litre self-charging hybrid engine. There is no cable and no charging stop: slow traffic in Patong and in the one-way streets of Phuket Town is where the electric side does most of the work.
Toyota Yaris or Honda City — which is better to rent in Phuket?
For a couple who mostly drive between the hotel and the beach, the Yaris: it is short and easy to park on the sois. The Honda City is a sedan with a longer body; its engine and trim are not in our fleet table, so we confirm them in the chat for the specific car.
Does Toyota have a car for seven people?
