Where a Honda makes sense on the island
Our Honda line leans towards cars for distance. The City is a plain sedan for town and the beach roads. The Civic is longer and quieter at speed, the one to take if you plan the highway to the airport every few days or a drive across the bridge to Khao Lak.
The HR-V is a compact crossover with a higher seat, handy on the steep stretch from Patong over the hill to Kathu. The BR-V is the family car with a third row. The CR-V is the biggest Honda we rent: a calm choice for a month on the island with luggage and kids. Compared with Toyota, Honda has fewer small hatchbacks, so for short hops between the hotel and the beach a Toyota or a Mazda usually does the job.

Honda City or Honda Civic for the airport highway?
The Honda City is a plain sedan for town, the beach roads and a closed boot for the weekly shop. Its engine and trim are not listed in our fleet table, so we confirm them in the chat before you book.
The Honda Civic we rent is the Civic Top Model with a 1.8-litre petrol engine, more than the 1.5 litres of a Vios or an MG 5. You notice it on the long run up Thepkasattri Road to the airport and over the Sarasin bridge to the mainland, where smaller cars work harder and get louder.

Honda BR-V or Toyota Veloz for five people, three suitcases and a stroller?
Both are seven-seat minivans with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and an automatic gearbox, so the answer depends less on the car than on the luggage. With all three rows in use, the space behind the third row is small.
Five people is the comfortable load: fold the third row, and the suitcases and the stroller go in behind. Ask for child seats with the Honda BR-V when you book, because spare seats run out in high season. If the BR-V is taken, the Veloz is its twin in the same class, and the search shows which of the two is free.

Why take a Honda HR-V to a villa on a slope?
Because the Honda HR-V is a crossover: five seats, a 1.5-litre petrol engine, an automatic gearbox and more ground clearance than a sedan. Private driveways above Kamala, Layan and Nai Harn are short, steep and often turn at the top, and a low car scrapes its nose there.
