BYD in our fleet means the electric Atto 1 and Atto 2, plus the Sealion Hybrid, which also runs on petrol. An electric car asks for one extra plan before the trip: where it will charge at night.
Renting an electric BYD in Phuket
BYD is the brand for an electric car. The Atto 1 is a small city EV, quiet and easy to squeeze into a parking spot in Patong or at Central Phuket. The Atto 2 is a larger car with a bigger battery, the better pick if you plan a day out to Phang Nga or the drive north towards the airport and back without thinking about range.
The Sealion Hybrid is on request. It runs on petrol as well as electricity, so charging stops do not shape the day. Before you book an EV, tell us in the chat where you stay and we say what charging there is near your address. If you do not want to plan charging at all, a petrol Mazda 2 or Toyota Yaris of the same size is the simpler choice.

Can I charge a rental BYD at my hotel or villa?
Overnight charging where you sleep is how an electric car works on Phuket, so settle this before anything else. Tell us the hotel or villa when you book, and ask the place whether a socket or a wallbox is free for guests.
BYD's distributor in Thailand lists a portable Mode 2 cable for an ordinary socket with the Atto 1 and the Atto 2; at handover, check that the cable is in the car. Never run it through a household extension lead. If the accommodation says no, the car parks of the big shopping centres are the usual public backup.

How far does a BYD Atto 1 or Atto 2 go on one charge?
Rever Automotive, the BYD distributor in Thailand, rates the Thai Atto 1 at 300 or 380 km on the NEDC cycle, depending on the battery, and the Atto 2 at 410 km. Which version stands in our fleet is not in our fleet table, so we name it in the chat for your car.
Expect less than the brochure. The air conditioning runs all day, and the hills between Patong, Kata and Kamala drain the battery on the way up. A day of beach hopping with a night on charge is easy. A return trip to Khao Sok needs a planned charging stop.

Sealion Hybrid or a fully electric BYD?
The BYD Sealion Hybrid has a petrol engine as well as a battery. When the charge runs low it keeps going on petrol, so a day trip to Krabi or Phang Nga needs no charging plan at all.
The two Atto models are fully electric: quiet, smooth in Patong traffic, and dependent on where you can plug in at night. The Sealion is not always in the live search; when it is missing, we confirm it by hand for your dates in WhatsApp.

Which connector does a BYD use in Thailand?
Type 2 for AC charging and CCS2 for DC fast charging, the standard of Thai public stations. BYD's Thai distributor lists both ports on the Atto 1 and the Atto 2.
Can tourists pay for EV charging in Thailand with a foreign card?
Public networks such as PEA VOLTA and EV Station PluZ work through their own apps, so install them before you fly. Whether a given app takes a foreign card we have not confirmed; charging overnight at the accommodation avoids the question.
Can I rent an electric car in Phuket for one week?
