What you get with an MG
MG in our fleet comes in different shapes. The MG 3 is a small hatchback, an alternative to the Yaris and the Mazda 2 for town driving and beach hopping. The MG 5 is a sedan with a large boot: suitcases from the airport go in the back, not on the seats.
The MG ZS is a crossover with a higher seat for the hills of the west coast, between Patong, Kamala and Surin. Where MG falls short is groups and rough roads: there is no minivan and no pickup in the line, so a big family or a trip down a dirt track to a quiet beach goes to Toyota or Ford. For a couple or a small group who stay on asphalt, an MG covers the trip.

MG 3 or MG 5: hatchback or sedan?
The MG 3 is the small one: two people with light luggage, flat coastal roads and parking that stops being a problem. Its boot takes a couple of cases, not four.
The MG 5 is a five-seat sedan with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a closed boot under a lid, the same engine size as the Toyota Vios. That boot is the practical difference: at a viewpoint stop or a restaurant car park the bags stay out of sight. A week of beaches for two, MG 3. Airport runs and long days out, MG 5.
Can I take the MG 5 off the island?
Yes, once the plan is agreed. The MG 5 leaves by the Sarasin bridge like any of our cars. Write the route in the booking chat before the trip, and the insurance is set up for driving on the mainland.
Krabi or Khao Lak make a full day, and that is where the sedan pays off: a long, settled car with luggage locked in the boot while you stop for lunch. Before a long day, check the tyres and the air conditioning at handover and photograph the fuel gauge next to the agreement.
Is the MG ZS big enough for a family with suitcases?
That is the main reason people ask for the MG ZS. It is a crossover with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, and behind the rear bench the boot takes a family's suitcases on the airport run. The bench seats three adults for a short hop and two in real comfort on a full day.
Count the bags before you book. If the luggage alone would fill a taxi boot twice, the ZS will be tight too. In the same class the search lists the Mazda CX-3 and the Toyota C-HR hybrid, so compare the rows.
