The Almera is a small sedan with a closed boot. That is what you want when bags stay in the car while you are on the beach. Both are city cars for Chalong, Rawai, Phuket Town and the airport road. For rough tracks or gear like surfboards and diving bags, the pickup in our search is the Ford Ranger. Against Suzuki, the Nissans are a little bigger inside; against Toyota, the choice of models is smaller.

Is a Nissan Note a good first car for driving on the left?
Yes, and the automatic gearbox is most of the reason. Phuket drives on the left, and without a clutch there is one thing less to think about on hill starts and in the slow queues along the beach roads.
