Areas of Phuket: Where to Rent and Where We Deliver
The island stretches fifty kilometres, and the area you stay in decides both your driving time to the airport and which car will suit you. A short guide to every area we deliver to, with distances and the character of the roads.

On the west coast the main difficulty is parking: in Patong the spaces are gone by lunchtime, in Karon and Kata there are more of them. In the south, in Rawai and Chalong, parking is free almost everywhere.
The hills of Kamala, Surin and Kata Noi dictate the class of car. The houses there sit on short but steep climbs, and after a downpour a saloon struggles to get up.
Below, area by area: what the roads are like, where to park, and what to weigh when choosing a car.
The airport stands apart: most people take the car right at the terminal exit and drive straight south. From there it is about twenty-five minutes to Bang Tao, about forty-five to Patong, an hour and a half to Rawai.
The north of the island — Nai Yang, Mai Khao, Thalang — has the calmest roads: wide lanes, few scooters, free parking. The south is busier and the west the most congested.
The west coast: beaches and hill roads
Patong is the centre of the nightlife, hemmed in by hills, with every road out climbing. It is 40–45 minutes to the airport. The streets are narrow and the parking is tight.
Karon and Kata
Karon sits on flat ground, which is rare in the south: a long seafront with free spaces and simple roads. Kata is the opposite: narrow streets, slopes, the winding road to Nai Harn. From both it is about 50 minutes to the airport.
Kamala, Surin, Bang Tao
The northern part of the west coast is calmer. Kamala has one main road along the sea and is 30–35 minutes from the airport. Surin has houses on the slopes, 30 minutes. Bang Tao is the easiest area logistically: wide roads, shopping centres and only 25 minutes to the airport.
The south: winding roads and quiet
Nai Harn is the furthest point from the airport, about 55 minutes. There are two ways out of the bay, both over hills: the narrow winding road to Kata and the calmer road through Rawai.
Rawai
A practical residential area with a pier and fish restaurants. The roads are flat and there is parking along the seafront. It is 45 minutes to the airport and 10–15 to the southern beaches.
The south demands attention at the wheel: it climbs and descends constantly, and in the rain the bends turn slippery.
East and north
Chalong is the island transport hub. All the southern through traffic passes its roundabout; from here every beach is equally close, the airport is 30 minutes away and Phuket Town 20.
The north near the airport
Nai Yang, Nai Thon and Mai Khao are quiet, empty beaches 15–20 minutes from the terminal. There is little infrastructure, but almost no traffic either.
The airport is a delivery point of its own: we meet you at the exit with a sign, track your flight and wait if it is delayed.
Which car suits which area
In the flat areas — Karon, Bang Tao, Rawai, Chalong — an economy car covers everything.
Slopes
Surin, Kamala, Kata, the hills above Patong and Nai Harn: if your place is on a slope, an SUV is more comfortable — not for capability but for clearance on the driveways and braking on the way down.
Tight streets
Kata and Patong are the case where a short car is objectively easier than a long one: parking and passing oncoming traffic on narrow streets is simpler.

Which area is closest to the airport?
Bang Tao, about 25 minutes — the shortest run of any beach area. The furthest is Nai Harn at about 55 minutes.
Where is parking hardest?
In Kata and Patong: narrow streets and dense building. It is easiest in Karon, with its long row of free spaces along the seafront.
Do I need an SUV?
If your place is on a slope — in Surin, Kamala, Kata or the hills above Patong and Nai Harn — it will be noticeably easier. In the flat areas an economy car is enough.
Can I collect the car in one area and return it in another?
Yes, including a return at the airport before your flight. We agree it in advance.
