Suzuki: small, light and easy to park
Suzuki is for people who want the smallest and simplest car on the island. The Swift is a short hatchback that fits into the tight parking spots at Kata and Karon beach, where bigger cars keep circling. The Ciaz is a sedan with a boot that is large for its size, a common pick for an airport pick-up with luggage.
The XL7 is on request, a taller car for a family. Suzukis are light, so with a full load they are not the car for the steepest villa roads above Kamala or Patong; for that take a crossover from Mazda or Honda. For flat driving between the beach, the night market and the hotel, a Suzuki is enough and easy to handle on the left side of the road.

Can two large suitcases fit in a Suzuki Swift?
Count bags, not people. The Suzuki Swift is a short five-seat hatchback with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, built for the tight car parks at Kata and Karon, and its luggage area is the size of a small city car.
A couple travelling light is its natural load. For two large hard cases plus carry-ons, the Suzuki Ciaz is the safer pick: a sedan with a long boot behind a lid and a back seat where adults do not sit with their knees up. Five adults with large cases is the point where a minivan starts to win.

How do I use engine braking in an automatic Suzuki Swift?
On a long descent, such as the road down from Promthep Cape or from the Karon viewpoint, do not ride the brake pedal all the way. Before the slope, move the selector from D to the low position, and the engine holds the car while the brakes stay cool. Back to D on the flat.
A light car like the Swift picks up speed quickly downhill, so set the low gear early rather than halfway down. If the selector looks unfamiliar, ask the person who brings the car to show it at handover.
Suzuki XL7 or Toyota Veloz for seven people?
The Suzuki XL7 is a seven-seat minivan with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and an automatic gearbox. It is on request: our supplier has it, but it does not show in the booking search, so we confirm it by hand for your dates.
The Toyota Veloz and the Honda BR-V are seven-seaters you can book straight away. With the third row up, any of them keeps only a little boot space, so seven people with full suitcases may still need a second car.

Is the Suzuki Ciaz big enough for an airport run?
For two large suitcases, yes: the Ciaz is a sedan with a long boot behind a lid, and soft bags stack better than a third hard case. Five adults, or four with big cases for two weeks, will outgrow it.
When is a Suzuki Swift too small?
With five adults and large cases, or for a villa up a steep driveway on the slopes of Surin, where a crossover gives more clearance with the same simple controls.
Is a Suzuki easy to drive on the left?
The Swift and the Ciaz are automatics with light controls, and their small size helps where Phuket is tight: U-turns on the main roads, scooters on both sides, parking on a street in Rawai.
