By the OSRM route planner Phuket Old Town is about 12.6 km and 15 minutes away, Central Phuket about 16 minutes, the Chalong roundabout about 22, Patong about 31 and Phuket Airport about 49. The town is where the large supermarkets, the markets and the hospitals are, and a weekly shop from Panwa is an ordinary errand once you have wheels.
The one trip that stays on the cape is the drive down to its tip, where the aquarium and the viewpoints have proper parking and the sea opens up beyond the headland.

The ridge road wants a body narrow enough for the sections where two oncoming pickups slow down for each other, and the houses want clearance, because the driveways to most housing climb at an angle and a low bumper catches the ramp. Never stop at a scenic bend for a photo, since neither you nor oncoming drivers can see round it; the tip of the cape, by the aquarium and the viewpoints, has proper parking for that.
Parking, heat and timing
Park on your accommodation's own land. Street spaces on the cape are almost non-existent, because the road is narrow and a parked car squeezes everyone passing. The cape is exposed and there is little shade along the ridge, so a car left out all day gets genuinely hot; a sunshade for the windscreen is worth having for a month.
Panwa itself is quiet, but the junctions where the cape road meets the town slow down considerably at the end of the working day, and a trip timed badly can double. Shift the supermarket run to the morning and the district behaves perfectly. In the wet season water comes off the slopes and gathers in the low points at the side of the road, so keep to the crown of the lane after heavy rain.
Ending the month
