How Much Is the Car Rental Deposit in Phuket?
What is included in the price
A car in Phuket: 7 days from 5 145 ฿ total (735 ฿/day, Suzuki Ciaz); 30 days from 16 275 ฿ total (543 ฿/day, Mazda 2), first-class commercial insurance included.
- Full business insurance: first-class commercial insurance is included in the rental price; damage to third parties is covered up to 800,000 ฿, and a copy of the policy is available on request.
- Police assistance included.
- Roadside assistance 24/7.
- Refundable deposit: from 5 000 to 30 000 ฿ depending on the model, separate from the rental price; left in cash at handover unless a non-cash option is agreed in the chat.
- Driving outside Phuket is agreed in the chat before the trip; some areas require additional coverage.
- The deposit is not the insurance excess: the deposit is a refundable sum held for the time of the rental, and the excess is the part of a damage cost that the renter pays under the policy. How the two connect in the contract is explained before you sign.
- Not included: delivery to your hotel, villa or the airport (counted separately, named in the chat) and fuel (the car goes back with the same level).
The deposit depends on the model: economy cars 5,000–7,000 ฿, crossovers 5,000–10,000 ฿, minivans 5,000–7,000 ฿, pickups 5,000–15,000 ฿, large SUVs such as the Ford Everest 8,000–15,000 ฿, electric cars 9,000–12,000 ฿ and the AVATR 07 30,000 ฿; the search shows the exact amount for the car you choose; the availability search prints the figure next to each car, so you see it before booking rather than at the car. All of it comes back. The deposit is held at handover and returned once the car is back in the state written into the handover record.

What does the deposit amount depend on?
On the car. Not on how long you keep it.
A weekend and a month in the same model carry the same deposit, because the figure is set per car. Most economy cars sit at 5,000 ฿, crossovers at 5,000–10,000 ฿. Large SUVs such as the Ford Everest are 8,000–15,000 ฿. A handful of models go higher, and the electric cars are among them.
Picking between two cars and the deposit matters to you? Look at the search result rather than at a class name. The amount stands next to the price there, car by car.
When is the deposit paid and when does it come back?
You hand it over when the car meets you, at arrivals, at the hotel or at the villa gate, and nobody touches it while you drive. It is not part of the rental sum; the days are paid for on their own line.
At the end the walk-round is repeated: body, tyres, air conditioning, fuel level, checked against the record made at the start. If the two match, the deposit goes back. What can hold it up is short and specific. Damage that is not on the record, less fuel than you started with, and traffic fines that reach us after the rental. The page how the deposit works goes through each case.
So the few minutes at handover are worth spending. Point at the scuffs, photograph the wheels, look at the fuel gauge before you sign.
Can I pay the deposit without cash?
Yes. Cashless options are agreed in chat before delivery, together with the car and the dates, so nobody goes looking for a cash machine after a night flight. What you cannot do is skip the deposit: a rental with none at all is not offered. The page on renting without a cash deposit covers the options.
How do the deposit, the rental sum and insurance fit together?
Each has its own job. The rental sum pays for the days. Delivery to your point is a separate line. The deposit is security that you get back. First-class commercial insurance is already part of the rental and covers every driver named on the agreement who carries a passport, a national licence and an International Driving Permit.
Want all of it for your dates in one answer? Send the dates and the delivery point on WhatsApp, or run the availability search. Back comes the model, the sum for the whole period and the deposit for that exact car.
When the deposit comes back
A cash deposit is returned at the inspection when you bring the car back. A card hold follows a different process: the bank releases it, and this can take several days. It is worth knowing before you choose how to leave the deposit.
Part of the deposit can be kept back for speed-camera fines that arrive after the rental. Returning the car and receiving a late fine are separate events, so the return inspection does not mean every possible fine has already arrived.
If you paid the deposit in roubles by transfer, it is returned the same way. For a card hold, allow for the bank’s release time rather than expecting the funds to become available at the inspection.
What can be kept from it
After an at-fault accident, part of the deposit may be held, starting from 5,000 ฿. The amount depends on the model and the damage. This starting amount is not a stated maximum.
The deposit and the insurance excess are different. The deposit is a refundable sum provided for the rental period. The excess is the part of the damage that the renter pays under the insurance policy. How these amounts link in your rental agreement is explained before you sign. Ask for that explanation when checking the terms for your chosen model.
Return the car with the same fuel level as at collection. If it comes back dirty, the wash is 300 ฿. Check the fuel level and cleanliness before handing the car back, and discuss any proposed deduction during the return inspection.

Common questions
Can I rent a car in Phuket without a deposit?
No. A rental with no deposit is not offered, but the deposit can be paid without cash; the option is agreed in chat before delivery.
Is the deposit higher for a long rental?
No. The deposit is set for the car, so a weekend and a month in the same model carry the same amount.
How much is the deposit for an SUV in Phuket?
8,000–15,000 ฿ for large SUVs such as the Ford Everest. Crossovers carry 5,000–10,000 ฿, depending on the model.
When do I get the deposit back?
When the car is returned and the closing inspection matches the handover record. Damage not on the record, missing fuel or a traffic fine that arrives later can delay it.
Is there a Phuket car rental with no deposit and first-class commercial insurance?
With us first-class commercial insurance is included in every rental and the deposit is still held. They do different jobs: the insurance is part of the rental, the deposit is refundable security held until the car is back.
Can I pay the car rental deposit in rubles?
Yes. The deposit can be paid in rubles by bank transfer, and it is refunded the same way after the return inspection. Cash in baht at handover also works, and other cashless options are agreed in chat before delivery.
