Renting a Car for a Month in Phuket
On a long rental it is not the driving that changes, it is everything around it: scheduled servicing appears, a replacement car becomes a real question, and so does extending. A monthly agreement is worth reading differently from a weekly one.

What changes compared with a week
Over a week, almost nothing can go wrong that matters. Over a month, ordinary wear becomes real: a tyre gets a nail in it, a service interval comes up, a battery that was marginal on day one gives up in a car park.
None of that is unusual and none of it should be your problem. What matters is that the agreement says so clearly, in advance, rather than being discussed for the first time while you are standing next to a car that will not start.
What to read first
Three clauses, in this order. Who pays for servicing and consumables. What happens if the car is off the road, and how quickly a replacement arrives. And whether there is a mileage limit, because on a month there sometimes is.
What it means for the car
A car doing a month of island driving works harder than the same car doing a week. Short trips, constant air conditioning, salt air and heat are the everyday conditions here.
Tyres
Check the tread at handover and look again after a couple of weeks. Roads here are abrasive and punctures from construction debris are common. A slow puncture is easy to fix and expensive to ignore.
Air conditioning and the cabin filter
If the air conditioning weakens or starts to smell, say so rather than living with it. Usually it is the cabin filter, which is a quick job, and on a long term it is ours to sort out.
The battery
Heat kills batteries faster than cold does. If the car has been cranking slowly, mention it before it becomes a morning you cannot go anywhere.
Step by step
Agree the terms before delivery
Get the servicing, replacement and mileage answers in writing before the car arrives, not after. A message thread is a perfectly good record and it removes every later disagreement.
Inspect as usual, but more thoroughly
The same walk-around as any rental, with more attention to tyres, brakes and air conditioning, because you will be relying on them for weeks rather than days.
Log things as they happen
If something gets damaged, or a warning light appears, send a message the same day with a photo. Small items reported immediately stay small.
Plan the return in advance
Tell us the return date well ahead, and if you want to extend, say so early. In busy months the good cars are already promised to someone else.
- Get servicing, replacement and mileage terms in writing first
- Photograph the whole car on day one, including the wheels
- Report damage and warning lights the same day, with photos
- Ask about extending well before the end date
- Confirm whether cover extends beyond the island
Servicing during the rental
Scheduled servicing on a long rental is our job. If an interval comes up while you have the car, we arrange it and, where we can, we bring a replacement so you are not without wheels for a day.
Who pays for what
Oil, filters, brakes, tyre wear and mechanical faults sit with us. Fuel, cleaning, tolls, parking and anything you damage sit with you. That split is standard and it is the one to confirm in writing.
Fuel
The usual arrangement is that you receive the car full and return it full. Over a month you will use plenty of stations; the large branded ones take cards and have attendants who do the filling.
Extending and swapping
Extending is normally simple, and it is simplest when you ask early. A few days' notice is usually enough; a phone call on the last morning in high season may not be.
Changing to a different car
If the class turns out wrong for how you actually live here, say so. Swapping mid-term is a routine thing: we bring the replacement and take the first car in the same visit.
Leaving earlier than planned
Plans change. Tell us as soon as you know, so we can collect the car and settle up rather than leaving it sitting outside your building. Message us on WhatsApp or Telegram, whichever you use.
Частые вопросы
What does a longer rental term actually give you?
Better terms and, more importantly, servicing and breakdown cover inside the arrangement rather than as your problem. Over weeks, that is worth far more than the daily rate.
Who pays for servicing on a long rental?
We do. Oil, filters, brakes, tyres and mechanical faults are ours; fuel, cleaning, tolls and parking are yours.
What happens if the car breaks down during a monthly rental?
We fix it, and where the car is off the road we bring a replacement. Confirm that clause in writing before the car is delivered.
Is there a mileage limit on a monthly rental?
Sometimes, so ask specifically. It rarely matters on an island this size, but it is better known than assumed.
Can I extend a rental by a few days?
Usually yes, and easily if you ask a few days ahead. In busy months, last-minute extensions can run into cars already promised elsewhere.
Do I need any extra documents for a long rental?
The same as any rental: your home licence, an international driving permit and your passport. Nothing extra for length alone.
