Nai Yang Beach by Car: Road, Parking and Best Time
Nai Yang is the beach next to Phuket Airport: a few minutes of flat road from the terminal down to the beach road by the pine park, and about 20 min from Bang Tao. Parking under the pines usually has room, but this is also where most cars on the north coast get stuck in sand, so the rule is to stop on ground other cars have already used.

Short answer
Yes, and it is the easiest beach drive on the island. Nai Yang sits right next to the airport: out of the terminal, a short stretch of flat road and down to the beach road by the pine park. No passes, no hairpins, no hill to climb out of.
The road into the village
The approach runs flat through a village, and that is where the attention goes. Driveways open onto the road all the way along, and bikes cross without much warning. Keep the speed low and cover the brake: the risk here is not the road but the people stepping onto it.
The bay itself is a curve of sand backed by casuarina trees, with beach restaurants and shade along it. Of the three northern beaches it is the easiest for a full day with family, because everything a day on the beach needs is within a short walk of the car.
What that means for the car
Almost any car will do. The roads are flat and quiet, and a compact automatic slips into the free spaces along the promenade more easily than a large one. That makes Nai Yang a gentle place to start driving on the left: short distances, little traffic and no hills.
The pines are the one thing to think about. Their shade is the best on this stretch of coast, but they drop needles and resin onto the paint, and in the sun the resin bakes on hard. Water from a bottle will not shift it, and marks left on the paintwork get noticed at handover. A rinse at a car wash in Phuket after a few beach days is ordinary local practice.
Salt is the other. The wind off the open sea leaves fine spray on the windscreen, and dragging dry wipers over salted glass scratches it. Use the washers first, every time.
If you are landing at Phuket Airport and staying in Nai Yang, we can have the car waiting at arrivals or bring it to your hotel after check-in: automatic, first-class commercial insurance, refundable deposit, the total for your dates fixed in chat. Send the dates on WhatsApp or through the booking form.
Where to park at Nai Yang
Parking at Nai Yang is the most organised on the northern coast. It is spread along the whole strip under the pines, with space near the restaurants, and there is usually room even at busy times.
The catch is the ground. The boundary between compacted earth and loose sand is invisible, and this is where most cars on the north coast end up stuck. Park on obviously used ground, where other wheels have packed the surface, rather than on fresh clean sand that looks firmer than it is.
- Park where other cars have already parked — packed ground holds, fresh sand does not
- Test the edge with a foot, not a wheel — a rental car has no all-wheel drive
- Choose shade over closeness to the water — a car in full sun for hours is an oven
- Rinse off resin the same day — baked-on marks turn into a deposit conversation
- Keep bags out of sight — cars under the pines stand unattended all day
When to go
Go in the morning. The light is better, the car park is empty and the heat has not built yet. If you want two beaches in one day, have lunch away from the shore between them and arrive at the second one at a quieter hour.
In the wet season this coast faces open water and the swell is serious. Red flags mean exactly what they say, and in rough months it is better to sit under the trees than to swim.
Skip the beach in heavy rain. The access roads are narrow, the verges soft, and on flat ground the water stands in pools of unreadable depth across the ruts.
Staying further south? From Laguna, Nai Yang is about twenty minutes up the coastal road, which makes it an easy morning trip. The scenic alternative runs over the headlands through Nai Thon: prettier, slower, and better driven in daylight.
Nai Yang on arrival and departure day
Being next to the terminal makes Nai Yang the easiest place on the island to start and finish a rental. You can collect the car, check in and be on the sand the same afternoon, and on the last day spend the morning on the beach before handing the car back.
Fill the tank here before the return, because stations thin out to the north. And leave a margin: sand, parking and getting back onto the road always take longer than the short distance suggests. Our note on how to return the car at the airport covers the handover itself.
ImportantGetting stuck in sand at the northern beaches is the most common reason for a recovery truck on Phuket. It is not an insured event and not a collision: pulling the car out is paid for separately, and on departure day it can cost you the flight.
Renting a car for this drive
Three pages answer the usual questions before a drive like this: how much a car costs per day, how big the deposit is and what the included insurance covers. The car is brought to Patong, Rawai, Kata or any other area at any hour, night flights included. Every car we deliver has an automatic gearbox, so there is no need to look for a manual car. The price of every model for three days and for a month is on one page with prices and rental terms. For this drive, see cars for rent in Nai Yang.

Common questions
How far is Nai Yang Beach from Phuket Airport?
Very close. Nai Yang is next to the airport: out of the terminal, a short stretch of flat road and down to the beach road by the pine park. Collection at the airport takes minutes.
Where do I park at Nai Yang Beach?
Along the strip under the pines, near the restaurants. Parking there is the most organised on the north coast and usually has room. Stop on ground other cars have already packed, not on fresh sand.
Why do cars get stuck at Nai Yang?
Because the line between compacted ground and loose sand is invisible. Rental cars have no all-wheel drive, so once the wheels dig in you need a recovery truck, which is paid separately.
Is Nai Yang good for a first drive in Phuket?
Yes. The roads are flat, the distances short and there are no hills. Watch for driveways and bikes crossing in the village, and it is a calm place to get used to driving on the left.
Where can I refuel near Nai Yang?
Fill up in Nai Yang itself or on the main road near the airport. Stations thin out further north, and there are none at the beaches, so do not count on finding one along the shore later.
