Laem Hin Pier Phuket by Car: Road, Parking and Time Needed
Laem Hin is one of the smaller jetties on Phuket, and with small piers the drive itself is easy while the turning is the hard part: signs are few and the last roads have little lighting. We have not timed the drive from each district, so check the pin and the approach on a map the evening before and leave with a margin for an early boat.

How to find the pier and how long to allow
The big piers of Phuket announce themselves with signs, traffic and car parks. The smaller ones do not. The pattern is reliable: a modest jetty gets modest signage, so ten minutes with the map the day before replaces a search for the turning in the dark.
Open the map the evening before, find the last junction and remember one landmark next to it. In the morning you then drive to a place you have already seen, which is far easier than reading faded signs with a boat waiting.
Counting the time
We have not measured the drive to Laem Hin from each district. Put the pier into a map app at the hour you plan to leave and trust that figure over a midday one. Then count backwards from boarding: time to park and walk to the boat, the drive, and a margin for morning traffic. An early start is the usual result, and it is the price of a relaxed morning.
Add a little more if it rained overnight. Pier approaches carry heavy vehicles, the ruts fill with water, and the last kilometre is one you will want to take slowly rather than make up time on.
What that means for the car
The roads to the less touristic jetties run through plantations and villages. They are asphalt, but there is little lighting, and before sunrise it is genuinely dark. Expect dogs on the edge of the road and scooters with no lights at all; a dead headlight bulb is something to discover at the hotel the night before, not on a plantation road at five in the morning.
Any ordinary car does the drive. The approaches are broken up by pickups with equipment and refrigerated lorries, and after rain the ruts hold water, so a low car should take the entrance slowly and at an angle.
Fuel is the same story. Some stations on the way only open later in the morning, so top up the night before and the dawn drive has one worry less.
For a boat at first light, have the car delivered the night before and park it ready to go. We deliver to your hotel, villa or apartment at any hour: automatic, first-class commercial insurance, refundable deposit, the total for your dates fixed in chat. Send the dates on WhatsApp or through the booking form.
The last stretch: a working jetty
At most small piers the final part of the road is also where the work happens. Boats are being unloaded, pickups stand with equipment, people carry boxes across in front of you. It is a place of work before it is a departure point, and the road belongs to the jetty first.
Drop to walking pace as soon as you see the water, late or not. Let people with loads cross first and do not stop in a spot where a pickup needs to turn.
ImportantDo not park across a loading area or in front of a slipway, even for a few minutes while you find the boat. Stop where the other cars stand, walk to the jetty and ask where the car can stay for the day.
Where to leave the car
Our pages do not describe a parking area at Laem Hin, so ask the boat operator when you book where guests leave cars. At small piers that is usually wherever the other vehicles already stand, away from the loading area.
The car will spend the whole day in sun and salt air. Take shade if there is any: a scorching cabin finishes off even happy passengers after a day on the water, and neither the plastics nor the seals like a day of full sun. Leave nothing of value inside, because the insurance on a rental car normally does not extend to what is in the cabin.
- Take passport and money on the boat — in a waterproof bag, not in the glovebox
- Carry the key in a waterproof case — electronic keys do not survive salt water
- Leave a towel, water and dry clothes in the boot — you come back wet and sandy
- Remember a landmark by the car — a small pier looks different in the evening
After the boat
After hours on the water, your reactions are slower than you think. Give yourself ten quiet minutes and a bottle of water before you start the engine. The same unlit roads that were dark at dawn are dark again after sunset, so keep more distance than usual and a lower speed.
If the return falls in the evening rush, a route through town is sometimes faster than the direct one. Check the map before you leave the pier, while you still have signal and a few minutes to decide, and pick the road you know rather than the one the app suggests on a whim.
If you drive to piers often on a long rental, rinse the car with fresh water now and then; a day of salt on the paint is harmless, a month of it is not. For the bigger jetties and how their car parks work, see Phuket piers by car and Rassada Pier by car.
Renting a car for this drive
What a car costs for this trip depends on the class and on how long you keep it: see the price per day in Phuket, and the search gives the total for your dates. We deliver the car to your hotel or villa at any hour, and a refundable deposit is taken at handover, its size depending on the model. First-class commercial insurance is included, and every car we deliver is an automatic, since manual cars are rare in Phuket. Booking, payment and return are explained in how renting a car with Kolesio works. For this drive, see cars for rent in Phuket Town.

Common questions
How do I find Laem Hin Pier by car?
Put the pier into a map app and study the last junction the evening before. Small piers are poorly signed, and finding the turning in daylight on the map is easier than in the dark.
Is there parking at Laem Hin Pier?
Our pages do not describe a car park there. Ask the boat operator where guests leave cars, park away from the loading area and take valuables with you.
What time should I leave for an early boat?
Count backwards from boarding. Subtract time to park and walk, the drive and a margin for traffic, then check the map at the hour you will actually leave.
Is the road to a small pier difficult in the dark?
Not difficult, but slow. The roads run through plantations and villages with little lighting, and scooters without lights use the verge, so check your headlights the evening before.
Can I get the car delivered the evening before?
Yes. For a pre-dawn start we deliver the evening before to your hotel, villa or apartment. Send your dates and the boat time on WhatsApp.
